Sinopsis: Basada en la obra de David Auburn ganadora del Premio Pulitzer. Narra la historia de una hija que tendrá que asimilar la muerte de su padre -un brillante matemático cuya genialidad se ve ensombrecida por su locura- y que deberá enfrentarse a sus emociones y sus miedos más recónditos. La joven intenta reponerse de su muerte con la ayuda de uno de los antiguos alumnos de su padre, que investiga las notas y apuntes de su padre con la esperanza de encontrar algún destello de la antigua brillantez del matemático. Cuando la joven empieza a barajar la posibilidad de que la inteligencia de su padre, que ella ha heredado, podría pasarle una factura muy dolorosa, se presenta su hermana, con la que apenas tiene relación, y que pretende hacerse cargo de los asuntos de su padre.
